Thursday December 5th
Accrington have been drawn at home to Royton in the 1st Round of the Inter League Challenge Trophy. This will be the first meeting between the two clubs. The match will be played on Saturday May 10th 2003.

Wednesday December 4th
Former Accrington professional Tama Canning appeared for New Zealand in the Super Max International in Christchurch. Tama took 1-9 in the second innings after conceding 34 runs off his two overs in India's first innings. He also made an unbeaten 15 with the bat in the second innings. Nathan Astle was also in action in the same match, top scoring with 42 in New Zealand's first innings. The home side won the two innings, 10 overs a-side match by 21 runs.

Wednesday November 27th
Accrington has reached the last eight of the Worsley Cup thanks to being given a bye in the draw which was made at tonights league meeting. [More]

Sunday November 24th
Andre Seymore will return to Accrington as professional in 2003. [More]

Friday November 22nd
Andre Seymore and Andrew Hall both hit centuries in Easterns 45 run win over Griqualand West at Willowmoore Park in Benoni in the third round of Standard Bank matches. Hall and Seymore, professionals in the Lancashire League in 2002 at Rawtenstall and Accrington respectively, put on an opening stand of 231 with Seymore reaching his ton first with twelve boundaries off 126 balls before being bowled by Johann Louw for exactly 100, his second One Day century. All rounder Hall ended unbeaten on 122 as Easterns made 266-2, and he then took 2-29 to earn the 'Man of the match' award as Griqualand West were dismissed for 221.

Friday November 15th
Today's Accrington Observer has reported that Andre Seymore has agreed to return in 2003. Official confirmation will follow as soon as possible.

Sunday November 10th
Mohsin Ahmed was rewarded for his magnificent season with no fewer than five trophies at Accrington Cricket Club's Annual Presentation Night. [More]

Tuesday November 5th
Andre Seymore hit 147 for his state Easterns who won its first major cricket title to become the 2002/03 SuperSport Series champions, by beating the star studded Western Province by 273 runs in Benoni. [More]

Former Accrington star Graham Lloyd has signed as professional for top Liverpool and District Competition side Bootle. Graham, who retired from First-class cricket at the end of the season, will also play Minor Counties cricket for Cumberland.

An EGM will be held in the clubhouse next Wednedsay beginning at 7.30pm.

Monday September 30th
The Under 15s have been confirmed as Section 2 Champions. After a long delay due to missing results from other clubs, Mick Donnelly's team have been at long last been declared as the winners. The Under 13s are also in with good chance of winning their section once the missing results from their section have been received. [More]

Monday September 23rd
Andre Seymore made a great start back home in South Africa, hitting 89 in Easterns match with Gauteng in Johannesburg. Andre hit 16 fours in his innings. The match ended in a draw.

Friday September 6th
Former Accrington batsman Graham Lloyd has today announced his retirement from First-class cricket at the age of 33. Graham, who still lives in Accrington, was a member of the club's last major trophy winning side, the Telegraph Cup in 1986, before embarking on a highly successful career with Lancashire. Graham also played in six One Day Internationals for England. In all matches in First-class cricket, Graham scored over 11, 000 runs.

Tuesday September 3rd
Danny Greenwood has been recalled to the first team for Saturday's match at Church. Danny made a career best 87 last Sunday at East Lancs for the seconds. [Teams]

Monday August 26th
Graeme Sneddon became the ninth player on record to score a century for the Thirds. Graeme scored exactly 100 in the Thirds win at Enfield which provided the club with a treble in two days over their great rivals. Graeme put on 75 for the 3rd wicket with Stuart Crabtree (49) who finished one short of his fifty. Graeme's century came off 98 balls with his first fifty coming off 78 balls and his second off 20 balls. In all he hit six fours and six sixes the day after achieving a career best score of 28 in the 1st team on the same ground.

Sunday August 25th
Congratulations to Scott Eaton for taking 5-21 in the seconds' 58 run home win over Enfield.

Saturday August 24th
This afternon's first team match with Burnley was called off. The guys got in some prcatice in the nets and also made a bit of a splash. Today's A Team match at Wilsons against Taverners A was also called off due to rain.

Saturday August 17th
Congratulations to Stuart Crabtree who this afternoon hit his maiden senior half century at Haslingden for the Thirds. Stuart also took 2-37 and a catch.

Today's A Team match with Attock has been called off as has the Seconds home game with Colne 2nds.

Thursday August 8th
Friday's Under 15s match with Ramsbottom has been cancelled.

Tuesday August 6th
The three outstanding 3rd XI matches have been given new dates. On Satuday August 17th, the 3rds play Haslingden, on Bank Holiday Monday 26th August they play Enfield and finally on August 31st they play Rawtenstall. All the games are away from home.

Monday August 5th
There are some important junior games coming up in the next two weeks. This week the Under 15s play close rivals Ramsbottom twice. On Wednesday we travel to Acre Bottom and on Friday we play them at home with a top of the league place at stake.

Next week, the Under 13s also play Ramsbottom at home on Friday August 16th. Both teams are in contention for the title.

The Under 11s round off their matches this season with a home game against East Lancs on Tuesday August 13th.

Friday August 2nd
The A Team's match with Haslingden Methodists has been cancelled due to the non stop rain that has been with us all week. This makes it five complete washouts for the team this season. For the first time this season both Tuesday's and Thursday's practice nights have been washed out.

Now the good news - both the Under 15s and Under 13s are joint top of their respective divisions in league tables published for the first time this week. Both sides share the lead with Ramsbottom, who in both cases have played a game less and are unbeaten.

Monday July 29th
Saturday's A Team game has been changed. Attempts to move the match with Haslingden Methodists to Sunday failed but the venue has been changed to Highams. Other ADCL news - the Asian XI has withdrawn from the league.

Monday July 22nd
Former Accrington professional Rod Tucker is to become a First Class umpire. Tucker will be fast tracked into the role along with ex East Lancs professional Paul Reiffel in an initiative by the ACB to attract former players into the job. Another former Accrington professional, Ryan Campbell has been selected for the Australian A squad to play a One Day series in South Africa in September. Also included in the squad are Michael Clarke of Ramsbottom and Mark Higgs, the Church professional.

Thursday July 18th
The Under 11s will play Longridge at home next Monday in a re-arranged fixture.

Tuesday July 9th
A Team captain Mick Donnelly may be out for the season after tearing a calf muscle at Lowerhouse on Sunday playing for the seconds. Paul Burrows takes over the captaincy for this weekends games against Whalley Road in the league on Saturday and Kashmir in the Harry Wood Cup semi final at Bullough Park on Sunday.

Friday July 5th
All this weekends games in the Accrington and District League have been called off again. This means that the A Team's Harry Wood Cup semi final against Kashmir will now be played on Sunday July 14th.

Tuesday July 2nd

The Under 11s maybe playing a friendly on Thursday (04.07.2002) against our under 13's. Mick Donnelly is aware, as are a few players. However it is subject to a pitch inspection by Peter Barratt on the morning of the proposed match.

Saturday June 29th
The A Team have been drawn against Kashmir in the semi finals of the Harry Wood Cup. The match will be played on Bullough Park, scene of today's 10 wicket thrashing by the same oppostion, on Sunday 7th July.

Friday June 28th

The Cricket Section has a new Treasurer. The recently married Karen Stephenson has taken over from Alven Burrows who was due to stand down in September. Alven's impending holiday has brought forward the change over.

The draw for the semi finals of the Harry Wood Cup will be made on King Georges on Saturday afternoon. The A Team are joined in the draw by Attock, Kashmir and Asian XI.

Wednesday June 26th
The seconds will be at home to Ramsbottom in the 2nd XI Cup Final on Saturday August 3rd. The draw was made at tonight's league meeting.

Tuesday June 18th
Accrington have become the latest Lancashire League club to join the world wide web when the club this week officially launched a new web site. [More]

Sunday's A Team match against Taverners B in the Harry Wood Cup will be played at Accrington.

Sunday June 16th
Professional Andre Seymore will be staying at Accrington until the end of the season. Andre had been due to go home to prepare for the South African season at the end of August, but he has decided to stay on and finish the season at Accrington.

Saturday June 15th
A maiden unbeaten Lancashire League half century by Tariq Hussain and 63 from professional Andre Seymore took Accrington to an 8 wicket win over Burnley at Turf Moor. [More]

Graham Lloyd has agreed to speak at the club's Sportsmans Dinner which will be held in the clubhouse on Friday 16th August. [More]

Friday June 14th
The A Team's matches this weekend have been called off. Sunday's Harry Wood Cup matches will be rescheduled but a special league meeting has been called for Monday night at the Great Eastern beginning at 8pm. This decision was taken before the late afternoon floods. The team were struggling to field a side with several players unavailable. Zaed Hussain has returned to Pakistan due to a relative falling sick but word has it that Immy is available again.

Monday June 10th
Tonight's Under 11s match at East Lancs was called off.

Sunday June 9th
All today's first and second team matches were called off.

Firsts match with Enfield is rained off. A streaker invaded the pitch at Enfield during the seconds match at Dill Hall Lane.

Saturday June 1st
Seconds reach the Junior Cup semi final with a 16 run win over Burnley and will travel to play Lowerhouse in the semi final on Sunday June 23rd.

Friday May 31st
At last a win for Accrington
After a long run of defeats, Accrington finally found the winning formula tonight. [More]

The Under 13s beat Lowerhouse to make it a double success. [More]


Saturday's A Team match with Haslingden Methodists at King Georges has been called off. All matches in the Accrington and District League have been cancelled for the third week running.

Thursday May 30th
Danny's back
Danny Greenwood is to return to the club. Danny has been playing for Read 2nds after a year away from the game.

Wednesday May 29th

The Under 11s are through to the next round of the cup on the toss of a coin. The team will now play Darwen away in the next round on Friday June 7th. To date Saf's lads have played just one game. The next scheduled match is at home to Darwen (2) on Tuesday June 4th.

Tuesday May 28th
Congratulations to Paul Burrows whose wife Jenny gave birth to a son William Paul last weekend. Mine's a pint Paul! Same again Grandad!

The firsts are unchanged for Sunday's derby match at home to Enfield. Mabs Hussain is still out with a back injury and Steve Birtwistle will play in the seconds. Nasser Hussain and Martin Whittle are both unavailable for this weekend and miss the quarter final cup tie against Burnley on Saturday. The seconds side on Sunday shows six changes from Saturdays team. The thirds play on Monday at home to Lowerhouse and the A Team are on King Georges on Saturday against Haslingden Methodists if the field is fit. Tonight's Under 11s match was called off.

Monday May 27th
Tonight's Under 17s match at home to Colne was called off after the late afternoon downpour.

Tickets are available for the Sports Quiz at the club on Thursday June 6th. Teams of four £1 each.

This Friday evening a team of supporters will play a team of lecturers from Accrington and Rossendale College.

Sunday May 26th
All matches were rained off. The firsts match at Church will be replayed on Saturday September 7th.

Saturday May 25th
More agony for the firsts with a last ball defeat at Lowerhouse. Steve Juliff took his 150th wicket for the club. [More]

Friday May 24th
The Under 13s beat Church by 65 runs [More]

Tuesday May 21st
Accrington are unchanged for the trip to Lowerhouse. Tofeeq Khan replaces Adam Greenwood who is working, for the local derby at Church on Sunday.

Monday May 20th
Seconds drawn against Burnley
The seconds have been drawn at home to the powerful Burnley 2nds in the second round of the cup. The match will be played on Saturday June 1st. The 3rds match with Haslingden will have to be re-arranged and the A Team will now play Haslingden Methodists on King Georges on that date.
The 3rds will now be at home to Nelson on Saturday July 13th which means that the A Team's game against Whalley Road will be on King Georges.

Sunday May 19th

Accrington's Worsley Cup woes continue. The firsts were knocked out of the competition at Nelson. [More] The seconds are through after beating Nelson. More details when available.

Saturday May 18th
All today's matches were abandoned. The firsts match will be played again later in the season, but the seconds and A Team will have to be content will no results.


Friday May 17th
The Under 13s have hit 305 runs in a 107 run win at Rishton. [More]

Tuesday May 14th
Wednesday's Under 15s match with Lowerhouse has been postponed.

Graeme Sneddon will make his Lancashire League debut on Saturday against Nelson at Seedhill. Fourteen year-old Graeme appeared last Saturday in the Inter League Cup at Oldham. Mabs Hussain returns after injury and Adam Barnes and Steve Juliff return on Sunday in place of Graeme and Asim Hussain. The seconds make six changes on Sunday and the A Team name the team they picked, but didn't start with last weekend.

Thursday May 9th
Monday's Under 17s match with Bacup has been cancelled after Bacup have withdrawn from the league.

Wednesday May 8th
Long standing club member Mr Harold Hope will be cremated today at Accrington Crematorium at 11am.
Graeme Sneddon has been selected for the Inter League Challenge Trophy match at Oldham on Saturday. Paul Clifford has told everyone that his hand injury will have healed in time for the weekend but Adam Barnes and Steve Juliff are unavailable on Saturday. Thirds - Adam Donnelly has damaged knee ligaments and will be out of action for two weeks.

Tuesday April 30th
Steve Juliff returns to the first team for the first time this season. Nasser Hussain drops into the seconds at his own request. Steve Birtwistle returns in place of Mabs Hussain. The thirds and A Team both start this weekend. The A Team play Clayton Youth Club on Saturday at King Georges. This season they will be without Mus Shah and Mark Booth who are both working away. It's a much changed third team with a lot of youngsters in the side that travels to Colne on Monday.

Sunday April 28th Matches off
All today's first and second team matches were called off. The Lancashire League programme will be replayed on Saturday May 25th subject to the Worsley Cup matches being completed on May 19th.
