Friday December 14th
Damian Clarke is the new Junior Chairman. Details for Junior Nets have been announced. They are at Moorhead on Friday night starting on 11th January 2008. The Under 9s and Under 11s run from 7.00 till 7.45 and Under 13s and 15s from 7.45 till 9.00pm. The cost is £1.50 a session or £13 for 10 sessions if paid on first two Fridays for the Under 9s and 11s.  The cost for the Under 13s and 15s is £2 a session or £18 if paid on first two Fridays.



Wednesday November 28th
The details for circuit training have now been finalised.  It will start on Wednesday 5th December at 5.30pm at the Fit to Fight Gym on Wellington Street, Accrington.  It is a red brick building near to the Poplar Club and has a car park next to it.  For further details ring David Ormerod.

First team captain David Ormerod presented the awards in front of a packed clubhouse at the Junior Presentation Night. [More]

Tuesday October 23rd
Accrington Cricket Club has been given the go ahead by its members to pursue negotiations for the sale of a portion of the club's land. At Monday's EGM members heard that a proposed scheme to sell off an area of land for building development could safeguard the club's future for ten years and beyond. [More]

Accrington 2nds have arranged a pre-season friendly at Bournemouth on April 5th next year.

Saturday October 13th
Young all rounder Toby Bulcock capped a superb first season at Accrington by picking up seven trophies at the club's annual Presentation Night. [More]

Wednesday October 3rd
An Extraordinary General Meeting is to be held at the Clubhouse on October 22nd at 8pm to discuss developments to safeguard the future of the club. All members are invited to attend.Advance notice is also given that the club AGM scheduled for 19/11/07 is now to be held on Monday 10/12/07 at 8pm. Any nominations for the committee or officials should be notified to the secretary in writing at least 7 days prior to the AGM.


Thursday September 6th
On Saturday Accrington, who moved off the bottom of table for the first time this season, visit Nelson the club who replaced them at the bottom of the pile last week. Damian Clarke and Adam Wilson return after injury for Accrington in place of Simon Hanson and Waqas Ahmed. The home side are unchanged amateur-wise but with an as yet un-named sub professional.

For the final match from the archives this season as a tribute to the late Lindon Dewhurst we travel back to 1952 to re-visit one of the former Accrington skipper's finest innings in a 4 wicket win against Sunday's opponents Ramsbottom.

Accrington look to end the season with three successive home wins. Visitors Ramsbottom have a good record in recent years at Thorneyholme Road. Accrington professional Nishit Shetty plays his last game for the club in front of the home supporters. Simon Hanson replaces Adam Wilson in the Accrington side whilst Ramsbottom name an unchanged team.

Monday September 3rd
A recently released DVD features rare footage of the Accrington verses Church local derby from 1902. The five minute film snippet is contained in the latest release of Mitchell and Kenyon films entitled Edwardian Sports. The film gives a unique insight into the early days of the Lancashire League which was then in its twelfth season. [More]

Thursday August 30th
Burnley visit Thorneyholme Road on Saturday looking to repeat last weeks crushing 12 point win over Accrington. Nothing less will do for the champions, but Accrington have suddenly discovered how to win matches once again under the leadership of David Ormerod. Accrington hope that Brian Heywood will pass a fitness test on calf injury to enable him to replace the injured Damian Clarke. Daniel Pickup returns for Burnley in place of Mohammed Jamal. The last time Accrington beat Burnley at Thorneyholme Road was in 2003. Matches in September begin at the earlier time of 12.45

On Sunday Accrington travel to Alexandra Meadows to play Worsley Cup holders East Lancs. The visitors haven't won in Blackburn since 1993. Accrington name an unchanged side. John Turner replaces Phil Mercer for East Lancs.

As a follow up to the EGM the club is holding a Members Information Evening next Wednesday 5th September 7.30pm in the Club hosted by the Development Committee.

Monday August 27th
Accrington will not be offering Nishit Shetty terms for 2008. The 35 year-old Indian has had a disappointing summer. After missing the first three matches Shetty has hit just 505 runs from 19 innings in stark contrast to last season, when he scored 500 from his first five innings. He has also taken 31 wickets at 15.7, but financial considerations have lead to his release at the end of the season.

Wednesday August 22nd
On Saturday, defending champions Burnley take on an Accrington side who are on something of a roll after three wins from their last four completed matches, all of which have been away from home. Burnley need to win if they are to close the 32 point gap between themselves in fourth place and leaders Rishton. Waqas Ahmed replaces the injured Brian Heywood in the Accrington side whilst Burnley are unchanged.

On Sunday, Accrington, still without a home win this season, entertain Enfield at Thorneyholme Road. Accrington, who last beat Enfield at Thorneyholme Road almost six years ago to the day, name an unchanged side whilst Accrington Old Boy Neil Holmes returns in place of Matloob Khan for Enfield. The last time Accrington beat Enfield at Thorneyholme Road.

Dibber's Dragons take on Lenny's Lions in a 20/20 Challenge match at the club on Bank Holiday Monday. Start time 2pm.

Thursday August 15th
Accrington supporters will be hoping the club can finally end it's long run at Thorneyholme Road without a victory when Colne are the visitors on Saturday. The club's die hard supporters have not seen their team win at home for exactly 12 months when they beat Church on 20th August last season. Since the start of the 2001 Accrington have managed just 16 home wins from 86 league matches at the ground which was once known as the Cemetery Ground. Simon Hanson replaces the unavailable Zahir Afzal in the Accrington side. For Colne, Aron Pollard and Adam Holt replace the unavailable Jeff Ellis and Ryan Procter who plays in the seconds. The last time that Accrington beat Colne at Thorneyholme Road Nishit Shetty hit an unbeaten 155 on his debut for the club. Derby day on Sunday sees the bottom two clash at West End when Accrington visit Church. Accrington select their side after Saturday's match. Chris Wade returns in place of Ryan North for Church.

On Monday the Under 17s are hoping to play their final match of the season at home to Haslingden. The team has so far played just three games, all defeats.

Wednesday August 8th
With nine matches and five weekends left to get off the bottom this Sunday Accrington travel to Centre Vale to play Todmorden. Brian Heywood retur, ns to his old club for the first time with Accrington who bring in Zahir Afzal and James Ormerod in place of the unavailable Matt Wilson and Waqas Ahmed. Todmorden are unchanged.

Wednesday August 1st
The in-form team of the moment Rawtenstall visit Accrington on Saturday. Home professional Nishit Shetty loves the Rawtenstall attack having smashed 173 and 33 last season and an unbeaten 152 earlier this season against them. Toby Bulcock and Graeme Sneddon return in place of Sam Heap and Zahir Afzal for Accrington. Danny Barlow returns in place of Matt Hanson for Rawtenstall. The last time Accrington beat Rawtenstall at Thorneyholme Road was last season when the team piled up a club record score.

Wednesday July 25th
It's an early start for the Thirds on Saturday. Their game against Todmorden, whose seconds play Ramsbottom in the Junior Cup Final later the same day, begins at 10am.

Top play bottom on Sunday when league leaders Rishton entertain bottom side Accrington in a local derby at Blackburn Road. Accrington are without Simon Hanson and Toby Bulcock so Waqas Ahmed and Stuart Crabtree come in. Rishton recall Jon Dobson in place of Matt Leathert. Playing at Rishton holds no fears for Accrington who did the double over their local rivals last season.

Thursday July 19th
At the halfway point in the 2007 season another double header weekend lays in store. On Saturday new Accrington skipper David Ormerod looks to continue his unbeaten run as skipper against his old club Bacup at Thorneyholme Road. It's eight years since Accrington last beat Bacup at home and 11 months since their last home win. Sam Heap replaces Graeme Sneddon in the Accrington side. With Peter Killelea still out injured Thomas Hartley retains his place in the Bacup side. The last time Accrington beat Bacup at Thorneyholme Road.

On Sunday Accrington take an unchanged side to third placed Lowerhouse who are also unchanged but without several regulars.

Thursday July 12th
It's the controversial 'sixth replay date' this Saturday with Accrington travelling to Enfield. Matt Wilson, Damian Clarke and Sam Heap return in place of Stuart Crabtree, Zahir Afzal and James Ormerod against an unchanged Enfield side.

On Sunday Accrington take on Haslingden at Thorneyholme Road. Zahir Afzal replaces Sam Heap in the Accrington side. Stuart Catterall returns in place of Matthew Marcroft for the visitors. The last time Accrington beat Haslingden at Thorneyholme Road.

Wednesday July 11th
The re-arranged fixtures for the 3rd XI League have been announced. Four matches could not be slotted in so they will now be classed as No Results, non of which ar Accrington games. [Fixtures]

Thursday July 5th
Accrington travel to Nelson on Sunday. Accrington name their strongest team for some time with David Ormerod returning to action for the first time since injuring his groin at Haslingden in May to captain the side for the first time. Another veteran Brian Heywood also makes his comeback after a hamstring injury but Matt Wilson is missing. James Ormerod will keep wicket. Nelson name their strongest side with skipper Mike Bradley needing just 4 victims to break the league's all time record for wicketkeeping dismissals. Accrington's last win at Nelson.

Friday June 29th
Lancashire League champions Burnley will be determined to keep their bid to retain their hard earned league title on track when they visit Accrington on Saturday. Scott Hudson comes in to the Accrington side for Zahir Afzal. Burnley are at full strength. Accrington's last win against Burnley at Thorneyholme Road was in 2003.

Tuesday June 26th
All rounder Zahir Afzal returns for Accrington's last 20/20 match at Church on Friday.

Friday June 22nd
Michael Horsfield leads Accrington in a Lancashire League match against Enfield at Dill Hall Lane for the first time after Matt Wilson stood down last week. Stuart Crabtree, Damian Clarke and Toby Bulcock return and Sam Heap keeps his place in the Accrington team after an impressive debut last weekend.

After two defeats last weekend, Enfield look to get their title challenge going again. Accrington's last win at Dill Hall Lane was in 2004.


Tuesday June 19th
Matt Wilson has resigned as Accrington. captain. David Ormerod has taken over as club captain and will take over as team captain when he has recovered from a groin injury. Michael Horsfield will take temporary charge of the first team in the meantime. Accrington are currently bottom of the table with just one win from 11 matches.

Thursday June 14th
On Saturday Accrington travel to Lanehead to face Bacup. Accrington are without Stuart Crabtree and Zahir Afzal so second team skipper Len Dewhurst comes in. A career best unbeaten 123 at Todmorden last week has earned Mohsin Ahmed a recall and James Ormerod also comes in. Damian Clarke returns to the seconds. Thomas Hartley replaces the holidaying Paul Gallagher in the Bacup side.

It's local derby day on Sunday. Bottom of the bill is the clash at Thorneyholme Road between the two sides at the wrong end of the table, Accrington and Church. Zahir Afzal replaces the veteran Len Dewhurst in the Accrington side. Chris Wade and Alec Holt replace Levi Wolfenden and Ryan North for the visitors. It's almost exactly 130 years since the two sides played the first ever game at Thorneyholme Road. On that occasion Church came out on top by just 12 runs after being bowled out for 79. Professional Flowers took 8 wickets as Accrington were bowled out for 67 inspite of a stubborn unbeaten 30 by opener Cor Hargreaves.

Accrington entertain Todmorden at Thorneyholme Road on Sunday. This will be the visitors second trip to Accrington, having already knocked the home side out of the Worsley Cup last month. Brian Heywood has recovered from an ankle injury in time to face his former club. Mohsin Ahmed plays in the seconds. No news from Todmorden. The last time that Accrington beat Todmorden at Thorneyholme Road.

Accrington travel to Bacup Road on Sunday to meet a Rawtenstall side fresh from a great win at Burnley last time out. The home side bring in John Dawson in place of Andy Riley. Better news for Accrington is the return to the fold of Mohsin Ahmed who replaces Jonathan Hayhurst. The visitors will be looking for an upturn in form from professional Nishit Shetty who so far has a miserable 21 runs from 4 visits to the crease. Adam Barnes' all conquering Thirds travel to Rishton on Saturday.

Monday May 28th
Skipper Adam Barnes took 8-18 to lead the Thirds to a fourth successive victory. Visitors Ramsbottom were bowled out for 116. Rain reduced Accrington's target to 83 from 27 overs. James Ormerod top scored with 37 to take the league leaders to a vital 2 wicket victory. [Table]

Wednesday May 23rd
Just when Accrington supporters thought it couldn't get any worse, the fixture list threw up the visit of joint leaders Rishton. Without a win all season in the league and out of the cup at the first hurdle, Accrington also have to contend with a growing injury list. The latest victim was Brian Heywood, who suffered a suspected broken ankle whilst fielding in close against Nelson last Saturday to join Damian Clarke (broken finger), David Ormerod (torn groin) and Adam Wilson (knee operation) on the sidelines. The experienced Zahir Afzal and Waheed Hussain come in for Waqas Ahmed and Toc Hussain for the home side. Rishton make four changes with Garth Wyse, Jimmy Bibby, Damian Dobbin and Andy Procter replacing John Seedle, Shaun Hutchinson, Ben Bridson and Daryl Thomas.
The last time Accrington beat Rishton at Thorneyholme Road. The thirds travel to East Lancs on Saturday and on Monday they entertain Ramsbottom.

Accrington Cricket Club officials have called a crisis meeting to thrash out the future of the club.
In a letter to Club Members, Accrington President Peter Barratt revealed that the club may be forced to go into liquidation at the end of June due to an expected shortfall in revenue of £10,000. [More]

Thursday May 17th
On Saturday Accrington take on Nelson, who haven't had the best of starts themselves, winning just once in the absence of injured professional Craig McMillan. Brian Heywood returns for Accrington after illness along with Graeme Sneddon and Andrew Greenwood who missed last Sunday's rained off match at Bacup. Skipper Matt Wilson should be fit after a blow to the face at Lanehead. Zahir Afzal and Matthew Donnelly are unavailable and Jonathan Hayhurst stands down. Nelson's new stand-in professional Henry Davids from Cape Cobras makes his debut. Neil Thompson is fit again after injury and Richard Meade also hopes to be fit to return. Andy Hakin and Gary Grimshaw return to the seconds. The last time Accrington beat Nelson at home.


The bottom two sides meet at Thorneyholme Road where Accrington take on Todmorden. It will be the visitors first cup match on this ground since 1986 when Accrington won the cup for the last time. The home sides recent record in the cup is horrendous with just three wins since last appearing in the final 18 years ago, the last of these being six seasons ago. The home side have all rounder Zahir Afzal available in place of Toc Hussain. Brian Heywood faces his old club for the first time since his transfer to Accrington during the winter. Todmorden again select after Saturday's match.

Thursday May 10th
Accrington again entertain Lowerhouse on Saturday in an attempt to replay last Sunday's game which finished with the visitors on top having reduced Accrington to 51-6. Accrington will be without David Ormerod for the foreseeable future after the league's leading amateur bowler tore a groin muscle whilst fielding at Haslingden. Adam Wilson is still out injured, Mohsin Ahmed is unavailable, and Brian Heywood is still missing through illness. Jonathan Hayhurst steps up for his senior debut, young all rounder Waqas Ahmed returns and Andrew Greenwood replaces James Ormerod. Lowerhouse add Scott Hope, Jonny Russell and Jack McGregor in a 13 man squad. Thorneyholme Road has been a happy hunting ground for Lowerhouse, who haven't lost there since 1994.The last time Accrington beat Lowerhouse at Thorneyholme Road.

On Sunday, its another tough game in prospect at Bacup. Zahir Afzal and Matt Donnelly replace Jonathan Hayhurst and Andrew Greenwood in the Accrington side whilst Bacup add Peter Killelea to their squad.

Thursday May 3rd
A busy Bank Holiday weekend sees Accrington face a tough double header with a trip to Haslingden on Saturday followed by a home match against Lowerhouse on Sunday. Haslingden name Lee Ingham and Andy Clough after injury with Barry Knowles and Robert Marcroft dropping back to the seconds. Accrington hope to have professional Nishit Shetty back for the first time this season after visa problems. The Indian is due to arrive on Friday.

On Sunday Accrington take on Lowerhouse. Thorneyholme Road has been a happy hunting ground for Lowerhouse, who haven't lost there since 1994. The last time Accrington beat Lowerhouse at Thorneyholme Road. Accrington name an unchanged side. Joe Beneduce is added to Saturday's squad for the visitors.

On Monday the thirds begin their season under the captaincy of Adam Barnes with a home match against Rawtenstall.

Thursday April 26th
Accrington travel to Colne on Saturday seeking a first win of the season after a comprehensive opening day defeat at Ramsbottom. The home side have professional Greg Mail back and skipper Stuart Lemon will take charge for the first time. Accrington are still without professional Nishit Shetty but name an otherwise unchanged side.

On Sunday Accrington host East Lancs in their first home match of the 2007 campaign. The home side have Clitheroe's New Zealand batsman Michael Papps as sub professional to face his Canterbury team-mate Shanan Stewart whilst East Lancs have John Turner back in place of Paul Moss. I's been 11 seasons since Accrington beat East Lancs at Thorneyholme Road in a Lancashire League game.


Friday April 20th
Graham Lloyd will act as sub professional for Accrington at Ramsbottom on Sunday in the absence of Nishit Shetty who will not arrive until next week due to problems with his visa.

Thursday April 19th
Accrington are hoping that professional Nishit Shetty will arrive in time for the game after delays with his visa. The visitors parade new signings Brian Heywood from Todmorden and young left arm spinning all rounder Toby Bulcock from Baxenden. There is also a welcome return for run machine Mohsin Ahmed after short spells at Rishton and Great Harwood. Adam Wilson will be out of action for the early months of the season due to a knee injury and Zahir Afzal is missing due to business commitments so promising all rounder Waqas Ahmed starts. Wicketkeeper James Ormerod and Damian Clarke begin in the seconds. Simon Read takes charge of Ramsbottom's attempt to win the title for the first time since 1992 after several close shaves in recent years. Professional Sunil Joshi's arrival has been delayed until next week so Morecambe's off spinning all rounder from South Africa, Werner Coetsee, stands in. Steve Leonard makes his league debut for the home side with returning paceman Toby McLean due to play for the seconds. It was 1975 when opponents Accrington last won the Lancashire League and a staggering 18 years since they last won at Acre Bottom.

Thursday March 8th
Lionel Cooke will be returning as first team scorer this coming season. Lionel is currently recovering from a knee operation but hopefully should be fit for the start of the season.

Tuesday February 6th
Accrington's 20/20 campaign begins with a home game against holders Rishton on Friday 8th June. The following Friday Enfield are the visitors. Accrington then travel to Alexandra Meadows to face East Lancs on Thursday 21st June. The final Group 1 games are on Friday 29th June when Accrington travel to Church. The semi finals are on Friday 6th July with the Final the following Friday 13th June. The competition begins on Thursday 31st May when East Lancs entertain Church. [Fixtures]

The Under 13s retained their Hyndburn Indoor Cricket title in dramatic fashion. [More]

Monday January 15th
Former team-mates and colleagues of Lindon Dewhurst were amongst the many mourners at the former Accrington captain's funeral today, including Derek Mark, Jack Collier, Jim Eland and Russ Cuddihy from the 1961 championship winning side.

Sunday January 7th
Matt Wilson will again captain the senior side in 2007. David Ormerod will be his vice captain. Len Dewhurst will lead the seconds with Waheed Hussain as vice captain. Adam Barnes will skipper the thirds with Dave Kennedy as Team Manager.

Wednesday January 3rd
A BBC film crew was at the ground today to film a piece about Shane Warne who will retire from Test Cricket at the end of the 5th Test against England. Filming took place at the home of Club President Peter Barratt, who signed Warne when he was Chairman in 1991, and the Australians former team-mates Andy Barker and Steve Juliff also performed for the camera. Warne celebrated his final Test with his 1,000th wicket in International Cricket today when he removed Monty Panesar.
