Accrington edged closer to their first title in 33 years with a nail-biting 2 wicket win over Rishton at Thorneyholme Road. Chasing 148 for victory, Accrington lost wickets early with Saeed Anwar (3-63) and Scott Greaves (2-30) making inroads into the leaders brittle early order. John Seedle proved difficult to score off with his teasing floaters. Matt Wilson made 37 and professional Roy Silva 17 but once again it was Graham Lloyd who led the rescue operation at 60-4. Lloyd made 49 from 69 balls with five fours and when he departed with 9 still needed Zahir Afzal took over to lead Accrington home with an unbeaten 19. Afzal and Lloyd added 33 for the 8th wicket in another tension filled ending. Lloyd passed 800 runs for the season during his innings. Rishton skipper Andy Bartley top scored with 53 in his sides 147-8. Bartley hit six boundaries in his 118 ball innings, passing 400 runs for the season in the process before becoming one of Paul Carroll's (3-26) 3 victims. Anwar hit 26 and Ben Bridson made 15 and then became one of Matt Wilson's 4 victims behind the wickets. Scott Greaves (19 not out) hit two big sixes in Damian Clarke's last over as 17 runs came from the last six balls. Clarke finished with 3-34. Skipper David Ormerod took an excellent catch over his shoulder at mid wicket to dismiss Mark Leathert.
