Nelson handed league leaders Accrington their first defeat in seven games. The home side emerged victorious by 40 runs after being in deep trouble at 44-5. A 6th wicket stand of 77 between Danny Kegg (33) and Rizwan Hussain slowly changed the course of the match. Accrington spinner Toby Bulcock had a hand in all five wickets to fall. First he held a sharp catch at second slip via the gloves of wicketkeeper Matt Wilson to send back Sean Lemon for 6. Then he clean bowled Neil Thompson (5) and picked up the wicket of Nelson professional Craig McMillan (8) when the ball lodged between the legs of Wilson behind the stumps. David Crotty was next to go, again clean bowled by Bulcock who then caught opener Khurrum Nazir (16) off Paul Carroll. Damian Clarke ended Kegg's resistance via a catch by Carroll but Hussain went on to make an unbeaten 75 from 85 balls with five fours. Thomas Lord then thumped an unbeaten 59 from just 36 balls to take the match away from Accrington. Lord hit six sixes and two fours in a 7th wicket stand of 95 which took Nelson to 216-6. Bulcock picked up 3-56 for the visitors. Carroll was dismissed in McMillan's first over and then Stuart Crabtree fell to Sam Halstead after a swift 20. Professional Roy Silva made 34 and Wilson passed his half century, hitting 52 from 92 balls, before being well caught by Mike Bradley off Nazir. Wilson's second half century of the season took him passed 400 runs. Graham Lloyd made 25 but after he was caught by Lemon off McMillan the Accrington innings collapsed. McMillan picked up 4-61 as Accrington were bowled out for 176. Accrington's lead at the top was halved to 10 points after Rawtenstall's win at Ramsbottom.
