Rishton v Accrington
Bottom club Accrington began another pointless weekend with an eighth successive defeat this time by 59 runs at Rishton. Accrington skipper Mark Aspin marked his return from holiday with a half century and 4-68 from a 23 over spell but Rishton piled up 207-8 and then bowled Accrington out for 148 to complete a comfortable double over their local rivals. Ian Procter top scored with 54, including six fours and a six, adding 90 with John Wharton (40) for the 5th wicket in the Rishton innings. Skipper Russell Davies also hit 37 and professional Peter Sleep made 25. Sleep fared better with the ball, taking 5-33 to destroy Accrington's middle order inspite of Aspin's fine knock. New opener Arif Hussain made 15 out of an opening stand of 18 with Mark Stevenson (2). Billy Rawstron (6) was cleaned up by Wayne Roberts (2-28) at 24 with professional Sherwin Campbell (17) becoming Sleep's first victim at 64. Aspin and Martin Whittle (24) took the score to 119 before Whittle fell to Sleep. Mark Demaine (0) and Russ Edmonds (7) also fell to Sleep with Scott Greaves (2-51) removing Ayaz Quraishi (5) and Aspin who made 52, including five fours and two sixes. Mick Wilson was last man out to Sleep for 13 leaving Duncan Warburton unbeaten without scoring in his third Lancashire League game seven years since is second match in 1987.
