Accrington's seventh successive defeat, this time at Rawtenstall by 49 runs, saw the club still firmly rooted to the bottom spot in the table after 12 matches. An opening stand of 165 between Matt Hanson and professional Michael Bevan set the home side on the way to a formidable 233-5. Hanson hit ten fours in his career best 65 with Bevan smashing sixteen fours and two sixes in his 117 ball knock of 119. Wickets then fell to Martin Whittle (3-85 from 17 overs) and professional Sherwin Campbell (2-71). Accrington were soon on the ropes at 10-2 with openers Mark Stevenson (0) and Russ Edmonds (4) falling to Bevan (5-57) and skipper Bob Holmes (4-58). Campbell (7) fell to Bevan at 29 with stand-in skipper Paul Barratt (29) departing at 49. The middle order fought back with Brian Holmes (41), Nick Marsh (33), Mark Demaine (26) and Whittle (25) all chipping in to help Accrington make 184 all out.
