A superb all round performance by captain Mark Aspin took Accrington to a 4 wicket win over local rivals Enfield at Thorneyholme Road. Aspin took 5-65 to help bowl Enfield out for 183 and he then hit an unbeaten 76 to lead Accrington to a fourth win of the season with 3 overs to spare. Aspin hit four fours and two sixes to pass 500 runs for the season in his second half century of the weekend. Aspin removed Andy Barker (13) at 26 and skipper Russ Whalley (4) at 43 with professional Sherwin Campbell (2-57) sending back Gary Barker (30) at 54. Five runs later Aspin trapped Mas Ahmed (5) in front. Enfield professional Vasbert Drakes and Jeremy Thompson put on 71 for the 5th wicket before Drakes was bowled by veteran Ian Birtwistle for 67, including seven fours and a six. Thompson (18) fell to Aspin at 144 with Birtwistle (3-33) cleaning up Damian Hartley (3) and John Crisp (0) in successive balls at 152. Warren Eastham hit an unbeaten 27, losing Mushtaq Ahmed (13) to Aspin at 175 and last man wicketkeeper Andy McMinn (0) to Campbell at 183. Drakes removed openers Campbell (15) and Mark Stevenson (15) at 23 and 49 and Martin Whittle (6), at 75. Nick Marsh (7) put on 22 with Aspin before falling to Whalley at 97. Tofeeq Khan joined his skipper to add another 58 for the 5th wicket before falling to Thompson for a career best 23. Thompson also removed Brian Holmes without scoring at 162 leaving Mark Demaine (10 not out) and Aspin to complete a much needed victory.
