Accrington went down to a fifth successive defeat losing to East Lancs by 1 wicket in a dramatic finish at Thorneyholme Road. Paul Barratt top scored with 30 in Accrington's 128-8. Professional Sherwin Campbell hit 28, openers skipper Mark Aspin 16 and Mark Stevenson 12. Former skipper Nick Marsh, batting at number eight and number nine Brian Holmes (11 not out) put on 29 in the closing overs before Marsh was caught behind by Matt Egan off Paul Kelly for 21. Mark Greenhalgh (3-24) removed Tahir Hussain (5) at 19 and Mark Lomas (4) at 34. Justin Greenwood (2-34) trapped skipper Andy Compton in front sweeping at 38 for 19. The spinner struck again to have professional Alan Dawson (4) caught behind by Mick Wilson at 49. Wilson claimed his third victim of the innings when he snapped up Andy Clague (6) at 51. Phil Mercer was run out for 3 to leave East Lancs in trouble on 55-6 after 29 overs. Kelly and Phil Mooney put on 29 before Mooney was well caught on the long on boundary by Neil Holmes off Aspin (2-67) for 17. Nas Iqbal joined Kelly to add another 39 before being run out for 17 at 123. Kelly was finally bowled by Aspin for 32 without addition to the score but Ian Haworth won the match in dramatic style by hitting his first ball for six to secure victory with 8 balls to spare.
