Accrington's first home match of the season ended in a 94 run defeat to Bacup. Mark Aspin took 5-37 and Mark Greenhalgh picked up 3-49 in Bacup's 160-9. Professional Roger Harper hit seven fours and a six in making 69 with Richard Swift (21), Nick Cronshaw (20), skipper Peter Thompson (16) and Mark Taylor (15) also chipping in. Harper had opener Bob Collins caught behind by John Chapman for 2 and John Nuttall removed skipper Nick Marsh (1) and professional Sherwin Campbell (2). When Harper trapped Mark Aspin in front without scoring, Accrington were in deep trouble at 11-4. Paul Barratt (13) and Martin Whittle (21) took the score to 31 but both men were dismissed by David Ormerod (2-33). Mark Demaine made 12 but Nuttall (5-10 from 11.1 overs) and Harper (3-18) polished off the tail to bowl Accrington out for 66 in the 41st over. The match was Bob Collins last in the Lancashire League. The opener sustained a broken finger whilst attempting a catch on the boundary whilst fielding. The finger became infected following the insertion of metal rods and Bob was advised to retire.
