Accrington fell to a fourth successive league defeat and a fifth in all games going down to Nelson at Thorneyholme Road by 9 wickets. Accrington were soon in trouble against Nelson professional Joe Scuderi (4-41) and Trevor Kegg falling to 6-3. Scuderi sent back skipper Nick Marsh (1) and his opposite number Neil Johnson (3) with Kegg trapping opener Neil Barnes in front for 1. Billy Rawstron (26) and Martin Whittle (28) fought back with a 4th wicket stand of 56 before Whittle fell to Peter Cockell (4-33). Martin Heap joined the attack and cleaned up Rawstron at 71 with Cockell holding a return catch off Paul Barratt (4) at the same score. Morgan Whip (3) also fell to Cockell at 83, Mark Demaine hit three fours and a six in making 23 from 29 balls, adding 24 for the 8th wicket with Mark Greenhalgh (6). Scuderi returned to send back Greenhalgh and Steve Juliff (0) with Cockell polishing off the innings by cleaning up Demaine leaving Damian Clarke unbeaten on 4 when the innings ended at 112. Openers Chris Hartley (47 not out) and Chris Heap (14) put on 77 before Clarke bowled Heap but Scuderi hit an unbeaten 24 to see Nelson home in the 38th over. Scorecard
