Accrington 86, Haslingden 179-7

Accrington suffered a seventh successive league defeat, losing by 93 runs to Haslingden at Thorneyholme Road. Accrington professional Neil Johnson had Patrick Lord caught by Damian Clarke for 4 in his fifth over. Johnson struck an even bigger blow in his seventh over by having the prolific West Indian professional Phil Simmons caught behind by Billy Rawstron for 8 at 19. At this point Johnson had 2-7 from his first seven overs. Stuart Taylor and Graham Knowles upped the tempo taking the score to 63 when former Accrington Junior Taylor was caught by skipper Nick Marsh off Vernon Woods for 35. Clarke snapped up Knowles who was caught by Bob Collins for 25. Charles Lord was bowled by Johnson (4-49) for 27 at 131 after adding 52 with Mark Griffin who also fell to the South African for 31 at 150. Skipper Bob Grimshaw (7) fell to Mark Greenhalgh at 173 with Neil Grindrod (21 not out) and Andrew Sidley (1 not out) unbeaten when the innings closed on 179-7. Sidley then took centre stage with the ball removing Collins (0), Marsh (2), Johnson (26), Martin Whittle (6) and Neil Barnes (0) to finish with 5-41. Rawstron was run out for 3 and Simmons had Morgan Whipp (2) caught behind by Paul Marcroft who claimed three victims. Barry Knowles (3-7) picked up Mark Demaine (13), Greenhalgh (13) and Clarke (0) to polish off the innings at 86 leaving Woods unbeaten on 10. Scorecard
