League leaders Haslingden kept on course for the Lancashire League title with a 94 run win over Accrington at Bentgate. Opener Patrick Lord top scored with 77, leading Haslingden from the depths of 37-5 to 222-9. Accrington professional Neil Johnson took 5-49 and then hit 60. Johnson struck with the first ball of the match having Mike Ingham caught behind by Mick Wilson without scoring. Professional Phil Simmons (5) fell at 14, caught by Johnson off Mark Greenhalgh (3-42). Johnson also sent back Stuart Taylor (1) and Graham Knowles (0) both at 19 and after the Lord brothers had taken the score to 37 he had Charles caught by Bob Collins for 3. Patrick Lord and Mark Griffin put on 68 for the 6th wicket before Neil Holmes trapped Griffin in front for 43. Neil Grindrod joined Patrick Lord in a 7th wicket stand of 101 before Lord was caught by Johnson off Greenhalgh after having hit six fours and three sixes. Greenhalgh also removed Grindrod for 39 at 212 with Johnson trapping skipper Bob Grimshaw in front for 2 off the final ball of the innings. Accrington's reply began in identical fashion with Simmons trapping Collins in front off the first ball of the innings. Skipper Nick Marsh (3) fell to Simmons at 9 and Paul Barratt (0) fell to Andrew Sidley at 13. Mark Demaine and Johnson took the score to 70 when the amateur was caught by Simmons off Grindrod for a career best 33. Holmes and Johnson added another 49 for the 5th wicket before Johnson was run out for 60, including eight fours. One run later Grindrod cleaned up Billy Rawstron (0) with Simmons accounting for Greenhalgh (0) and Wilson (0) at 121. Five runs later Grindrod cleaned up the tail by sending back Vernon Woods (4) and Damian Clarke (0) off successive balls leaving Holmes unbeaten on 14 when the innings ended on 126. Scorecard
