Accrington won for the second match running, beating East Lancs by 4 wickets at Alexandra Meadows to stay in eighth place in the table. The match was replayed from the previous week when Accrington were bowled out for just 88 before rain prevented East Lancs from batting. Seventeen year-old off spinner Justin Greenwood was Accrington's match winner, taking 5-28 to bowl the home side out for 137. East Lancs openers David Pearson and Tahir Hussain put on 62 before Hussain was caught by Martin Whittle off Neil Holmes for 14. Pearson was bowled by Accrington professional Neil Johnson for 35 at 66. Mark Lomas helped professional David Clarke put on 39 before being caught by Mark Demaine off Vernon Woods for 17. Four runs later Andy Clague became Greenwood's first victim when he was bowled for 3. One run later Greenwood bowled Clarke for 28. Phil Mooney was next to go caught behind by Russell Edmonds off Greenwood for 5 at 122. The off spinner bowled Phil Mercer (14) at 129 and Woods had skipper Andy Compton caught by Edmonds without scoring at the same total. Greenwood picked up his fifth victim when he had Paul Kelly (5) caught by skipper Nick Marsh at 37. Johnson polished off the tail by having Arif Hussain caught by Edmonds for 2 leaving Ian Haworth stranded without facing a ball. Promoted to open the innings, Billy Rawstron made 22 before falling to Kelly at 43. Marsh (18) was caught behind by Pearson off Clarke at 51. Ten runs later Clarke had his opposite number Johnson caught by Mooney for 7. Whittle (3) added 22 with Paul Barratt for the 4th wicket before he was trapped in front by Kelly (3-62). Demaine (5) also fell to Kelly at 91 and Neil Barnes (3) was caught by Clague off Clarke after adding 20 with Barratt who then took Accrington to victory with a fine unbeaten 44, adding an unbroken 28 with Holmes (14 not out).
