Accrington went down to a third successive defeat losing by 5 wickets to Church in the local derby at West End. Church professional Chris Matthews took 4-27 to help bowl Accrington out for 116 in he 45th over. Skipper Nick Marsh was first to go caught by Alan Gilrane off Nick Westwell for 2, Matthews removed his opposite number Neil Johnson (6) at 20. John Longden joined the attack and had opener Bob Collins caught by Andy Aspin for a top score of 29 at 54. Billy Rawstron (13) fell to Stephen George at 66 and Martin Whittle was run out for 14 at 95. Ten runs later Mark Demaine fell on identical fashion for 6 with Matthews accounting for Mark Greenhalgh (2), Russell Edmonds (0) and Paul Barratt who made a fighting 26 from 51 balls. Westwell returned to polish off the innings by cleaning up Steve Juliff without scoring leaving Damian Clarke unbeaten on 1. It took Church 32.2 overs to knock off the runs losing Alec Holt (5) to Greenhalgh at 39 after Aspin was run out for 8 at 19. Phil Sykes and Matthews put on 47 before Johnson removed his opposite number for 22 and Simon Hargreaves (0) in successive balls. Sykes holed out to Juliff off Clarke for 35 with 17 still needed but Trevor Hatch (21 not out) and Gerard Metcalf (1 not out) saw Church home without further loss. Scorecard
