After beginning the season with three successive wins, Accrington came crashing down to earth with a 100 run defeat at Burnley. Opener Terry Little top scored with 90 in Burnley's 216-7. Professional Neil Johnson held a return catch off Mark Harvey (25) after he had added 41 with Little. Damian Clarke removed skipper Duncan Spencer (7) at 72 but Pankaj Tripathi and Little put on 76 for the 3rd wicket. Martin Whittle broke the stand by having Tripathi caught by Bob Collins for 43. One run later wicketkeeper Billy Rawston held an edge off Peter Brown (0) to give Johnson his second wicket. Professional Joe Angel hit 19 before falling to Whittle (2-62). Johnson removed Andy McLeod (4) and finally Little at 216 to finish with 4-46 from 20 overs. Neil Anderson was unbeaten on 10 with Bob Whitaker yet to score when the innings closed one ball later. Angel sent back Collins in his first over before a run had been scored. Tariq Saddique picked up the vital wicket of Johnson for 6 at 18 with Angel having skipper Nick Marsh held by his opposite number Spencer for 12 at 28. Paul Barratt (11) fell to Saddique at 36, David Connolly removed Billy Rawstron (15) at 72 with McLeod stumping Neil Barnes (13) off Whitaker at 75. Whittle (16) was bowled by Harvey at 104 with Steve Juliff (0) being run out without addition. Tripathi bowled Vernon Woods (2) at 115 and one run later Harvey cleaned up Damian Clarke (0) to polish off the innings at 116 leaving Mark Demaine unbeaten on 23. Scorecard
