Accrington moved up three places to 10th after a 23 run win over Worsley Cup finalists Bacup in a low scoring game at Lanehead. Professional Neil Johnson proved to be the match winner, top scoring with 46 in Accrington's 124-7 and then taking 5-51 to help bowl Bacup out for 101. Accrington skipper Nick Marsh was first to go caught by Terry Lord off Peter Cook (2-15) for 14 with the score on 32. Bob Collins (19) was next to go, caught and bowled by Cook at 35. Bacup professional Roger Harper (2-48) removed Billy Rawstron (5) at 43 and Paul Barratt (11) at 80. David Ormerod (3-42) sent back Mark Demaine (1) at 88, Johnson (46) at 105 and Neil Holmes (9) at 123. Mark Greenhalgh was unbeaten on 11 and wicketkeeper Mick Wilson was on 1 when the innings ended after 46 overs on 124-7. Greenhalgh struck an early blow for Accrington having opener Mark Taylor caught by Barratt without scoring at 2. Nick Cronshaw and Harper took the score to 37 when Johnson had Cronshaw caught behind by Wilson for 13. Johnson then picked up the vital wicket of Harper (30) who was caught by Marsh at 52. Lord was next to go caught behind by Wilson off Johnson at 59. Richard Swift followed in identical fashion next ball to have the home side 59-5 with Johnson on a hat-trick. Dave Thompson survived, adding 14 with his brother, skipper Peter, before being caught by Collins off Greenhalgh for 7. Cook made 8 before being trapped in front by Greenhalgh at 83. John Chapman joined his skipper to take the score to 98 when he was caught by Collins off Johnson for 7. Peter Thompson's 79 ball innings of 18 ended when he was caught by Marsh off Greenhalgh (4-37) at 100. One run later Ormerod (1) was run out and the innings ended at 101 leaving John Nuttall unbeaten on 0. Scorecard
