Tight bowling by professional Robert Haynes and skipper David Lloyd helped Accrington to a 9 run win at Lowerhouse. Haynes top scored with 35 in Accrington's 137 all out and he followed up by taking 4-47 from 20 overs to restrict Lowerhouse to 128-8 from their 46 overs. Accrington openers Nick Marsh (11) and Andy Barker (13) both fell to the off spin of Pankaj Tripathi who picked up 5-40 for the home side. Haynes hit three sixes and two fours in making 35 from 24 balls before falling to his opposite number Mansoor Elahi (3-40) at 71. Billy Rawstron (3) fell to Jez Hope at the same score and five runs later skipper Lloyd became Hope's second wicket. Paul Barratt fell to Elahi for 5 and David Parsons was bowled by Tripathi for 11 with the score on 106. Neil Barnes held the innings together with a fine unbeaten 34, adding 18 with Trevor Hatch (6) and 13 with last man Ian Birtwistle (2). Haynes snapped up opener Stan Heaton (4) at 11. Tripathi was next to go at 37 when he was stumped by Rawstron off Lloyd (2-34) for 26. Elahi made 17 before being bowled by Haynes at 77. Phil Astin fell without addition for 23 to give Birtwistle his only wicket of the innings. Hope and Brian Higgin (8) took the score into three figures before Haynes had Higgin caught by Barker at 101. Brian Holmes batted out the innings for an unbeaten 17, losing Hope for 23 at 123, David Whalley (0) at the same score and Roger Bromley (2) to Haynes at 128. Frank Entwistle opened his account on his senior debut, finishing unbeaten on 1 when the innings ended on 128-8. Scorecard
