Second placed Accrington notched a fourth successive win and a second of the weekend by beating local rivals Church by 4 wickets at Thorneyholme Road. David Parsons (3-25) had Church in trouble at 19-3 by dismissing professional Graham Smith (9), skipper Steve Metcalf (1) and Gerard Metcalf (7). A 4th wicket stand of 87 between Graham Parkinson and Ian Osborne put the visitors back in the match. Parkinson hit seven fours in making 53 before being run out. David Gilrane (2) fell to Accrington professional Robert Haynes (3-65) at 123 and Osborne followed without addition after making 41. Two runs later Martin Whittle removed Tommy George (1) and Haynes picked up David Catlow (8) at 134. Nick Westwell hit an unbeaten 11 and Ken Fergusson an unbeaten 2 to take Church to 146-8. Accrington openers Nick Marsh and stand-in skipper Andy Barker put on 30 before Marsh fell to David Ainsworth for 20. Billy Rawstron was trapped in front by Smith for 2 at 37 but Haynes and Barker put on 64 for the 3rd wicket. Skipper Metcalf had Haynes caught by Westwell at cover for 40 with the score on 101. Barker's innings of 41 was ended at 109 when Fergusson took the catch off Westwell. Smith accounted for Trevor Hatch (0) and Paul Barratt (10) but Mark Demaine hit an unbeaten 22, adding an unbroken 19 with Parsons (9 not out) to see Accrington home in the 43rd over. Accrington's win cut the gap on leaders Haslingden to 9 points. Scorecard
