An innings of 94 by professional Rod Tucker couldn't stop Accrington sliding to a fourth successive league defeat of the season this time at the hands of Todmorden the team they had beaten on the opening day to kick start a run of four wins on the bounce. Accrington lost Andy Barker (3) at 9 to Tom Farry but Nick Marsh and Tucker took the score to 50 when Marsh fell to Todmorden professional Sherlon Greaves for 19. Tucker and stand-in skipper Graham Beech put on 94 for the 3rd wicket before Tucker was caught by Mick Hartley trying to sweep Ibrar Ali for six. The Australian hit thirteen fours in his 99 ball innings. Neil Barnes fell 2 runs later without scoring, stumped by David Whitehead off Ali. Beech was next to to go at 161, also stumped by Whitehead off Ali for 29. Ali also picked up Trevor Hatch (11), Andy Gardener (2) and Martin Whittle (0) in taking a career best 6-47 from 11 overs in Accrington's innings of 173-8. Albert Ross became Neil Holmes first senior victim on debut for 11 with the total on 25. Skipper Ian Smith made 40, adding 85 for the 2nd wicket with Greaves before falling to Tucker (2-56). Tucker sent back John Brierley for 4 six runs later and Martin Whittle accounted for Steve Bailey (13), who was well caught by Barnes with the score on 129. Greaves and Whitehead (12 not out) saw Todmorden to victory in the 43rd over, riding their luck at times, adding an unbroken 45 for the 5th wicket with Greaves hitting six fours and a six in his unbeaten 86 made from 95 balls.
