An unbeaten maiden Lancashire League century by professional Rod Tucker saw Accrington open the 1988 season with a 7 wicket win at Todmorden. Tucker's unbeaten 110 came off 93 balls and contained a dozen boundaries and two sixes. After losing Graham Beech without scoring at 7, Tucker added 40 with fellow left hander Nick Marsh (25) and 113 for the 3rd wicket with Andy Barker who made 44 on his debut for the club following his move from Enfield during the winter. Skipper David Lloyd saw his team to victory with almost eight overs to spare after the home side had made 183-5 from their 46 overs. Stuart Bailey hit seven fours and a six in making a league best 55 from 45 balls. Opener Albert Ross made 30, new professional Sherlon Greaves 37, John Brierley 32 and skipper Ian Smith an unbeaten 10. Tucker took 3-75 and Lloyd 2-68 for the visitors. Scorecard
