An unbeaten 94 by skipper David Wells took Rishton to a 7 wicket win in a high scoring game at Accrington. The home side got off to a solid start with openers Nick Marsh adding 48 before Marsh was caught by sub professional Maninder Singh off Colin Kuhn for 20. Barnes followed at 62 bowled by Singh for 24. Four runs later stand-in skipper Graham Beech was stumped by Frank Martindale off Singh for 2. Home professional Rod Tucker and Andy Barker added 125 for the 4th wicket to take the score to 191 in the 45th over when Tucker fell to Robbie Walsh for 69, made from 68 balls with seven fours and a huge six, passing 500 runs for the season. Barker fell in the final over to Singh (3-74) for 47. Mark Demaine (2 not out) and Trevor Hatch (3 not out) saw the over out with Accrington finishing on 197-5. Rishton's innings also got off to a solid start with openers Craig Smith and his skipper Wells putting on 92. Smith was the man to fall to Ian Birtwistle, caught by Paul Barratt for 51 from 80 balls, including five boundaries. Singh didn't last long, also falling to Birtwistle for 3 at 98 but Russ Whalley joined Wells to add 92 for the 3rd wicket. Whalley's 53 ball innings of 40 was also ended by Birtwistle who took 3-50, but Wells saw Rishton home in the 42nd over, taking 120 balls for his unbeaten 94 which included seven fours and a six.
