Accrington broke a sequence of four successive defeats with a 6 wicket win at Rawtenstall in a high scoring encounter. A league best unbeaten 122 by professional Rod Tucker proved to be the match winning knock after the home side had made 225-4 in their 46 overs. Home openers Glenn Barlow (29) and Richard Swift (32) put on 45 before Barlow was clean bowled by Tucker. Swift's senior best innings of 32 was ended by Vernon Woods who claimed his maiden Lancashire League wicket in his second senior game for the club with the score on 77. Mark Griffin fell to Tucker 3 runs later for 2 but a 4th wicket stand of 111 between professional David Norman and Peter Wood took the score to 191. Trevor Hatch had Wood caught by Woods for 66 to pick up his second wicket of the season. Wood hit two fours and six sixes in a lightning innings of 66. Norman went on to hit seven fours and two sixes in making an unbeaten 84 from 73 balls. John Kershaw was unbeaten on 4 at the close. Accrington made a poor start in reply losing openers Nick Marsh (3) at 4 and Neil Barnes (7) at 14. Andy Barker followed at 38 for 16, caught by Peter Barnes off Keith Roscoe. Stand-in skipper Graham Beech and Tucker then put on 132 for the 4th wicket. Beech fell four runs short of his half century having hit four fours in an 83 ball stay. Tucker went on to hit nine fours and five sixes in his unbeaten 122 from just 85 balls, adding an unbroken 57 for the 5th wicket with Hatch who finished unbeaten on 22. Accrington's victory gives the club a first double of the campaign but the club stayed in sixth place. Scorecard
