Accrington claimed their first win in five matches, beating Enfield on run rate at Dill Hall Lane. Accrington lost opener Nick Marsh to Enfield professional Bernard Reidy for 16 with the score on 30. Professional Rod Tucker made 17 before being stumped by Andy McMinn off Mark Fallon with the total on 83. Opener Neil Barnes was next to go at 99, bowled by David Stanley for 47. Andy Barker made 12 against his former club before being bowled by Reidy who dished out the same treatment to Paul Barratt (7) and Trevor Hatch (11) in taking 4-54 to reach 50 wickets for the season. Billy Rawstron held the innings together hitting an unbeaten 51 from 59 balls, including three fours. Stand-in skipper Graham Beech was unbeaten on 9, batting at number eight in Accrington's 184-6. Ian Birtwistle's outstanding season continued with the veteran taking 5-44 and Tucker 4-66 to bowl out Enfield for 137. Tucker struck first to send back Mas Ahmed for 6 and Neil Holmes removed Fallon for 1. Paul Allen was joined by Reidy and the pair took the score to 46 when Allen became Birtwistle's first victim for 23. Kevin Lace soon followed for 1 and when Reidy was caught by Holmes off Birtwistle for 41 Enfield were 83-5. John Bramwell followed first ball and 5 runs later Damian Hartley fell to Tucker also without scoring. Late resistance by Stanley (18), Eric Blanche (23) and McMinn (17) took Enfield to 137 all out at exactly 8pm with 10 overs lost to the rain. Accrington stayed in eighth place in the table.
