Accrington 151-8, Lowerhouse 116,
1st August 1987

Lowerhouse gained sweet revenge for their home defeat three weeks previously by beating Accrington by 2 wickets at Thorneyholme Road. Lowerhouse professional Tom Hogan struck an early blow by removing opener Graham Beech without scoring with just a single on the board. Nick Marsh (22) fell to David Whalley after adding 73 with sub professional Ian Austin who made 58 from 89 balls with six fours before falling to Jez Hope. Paul Barratt (20), Billy Rawstron (16) and Andy Gardener (13) also chipped in with Hogan taking 4-49 and Whalley 2-37 in Accrington's 151-8. New recruit Keith Windle also made 6 in his first senior appearance for the club since his transfer from Enfield. Lowerhouse also lost an early wicket with Hope falling to Trevor Hatch without scoring at 1. Austin trapped Phil Astin (1) at 3 and then Whalley (25) and opener Chris Bleazard put on 47. Pankaj Tripathi became Austin's second victim at 73 followed by Hogan (10) at 95. Brian Higgin helped Bleazard to take the score to 117 when he holed out to Beech to give Duncan Warburton his first wicket on his senior debut. Warburton (2-50) then had Brian Holmes caught on the boundary by Marsh without scoring to put Accrington in charge. Bleazard though had other ideas opening his shoulders as the overs and partners ran out to finish unbeaten on 69, adding 17 with Chris Scott (7) and an unbroken 17 with Roger Bromley (4 not out) to see the visitors to victory with 10 balls remaining. Bleazard's fine innings contained five fours and two sixes and lasted 137 balls. Austin took 4-48 from 22-2 overs. Scorecard
