Accrington 129-6, Burnley 99
13th June 1987

Accrington's 30 run win over next to bottom club Burnley at Thorneyholme Road was the club's second win of the season and first since the opening day back in April. A nightmare start saw Accrington slip to 15-4 with new opener Trevor Hatch (1), Nick Marsh (0), Billy Rawstron (5) and professional Bharathi Arun (7) all back in the pavilion. Four of Paul Blakey's first five overs were maidens as the medium pacer bagged both openers. Another fighting innings by Andy Gardener in partnership with David Lloyd playing his second league match of the campaign, saw Accrington recover to 67-5 when Bob Whitaker removed Gardener for a 66 ball knock of 25. Paul Barratt (13) helped Lloyd add another 40 for the 6th wicket and skipper Alan Worsick chipped in to help his side close on 129-6 from the full 46 overs. Lloyd finished unbeaten on 70, made from 116 balls and including seven fours. Burnley also began badly with Arun picking up Peter Brown (0) and Roger Law (16) after Barry Bromley (2) had been run out. Opener Chris Wright's 48 ball innings ended for 8 when Arun trapped him in front at 29. Worsick removed Paul Killian at 37 and then professional Brett Matthews and Neil Anderson put on 24 for the 6th wicket before Lloyd claimed the wicket of the visiting paid man. Lloyd had young Jon Harvey stumped by Rawstron for 16 and then the wicketkeeper held Blakey (16) to give Arun his 4th wicket at a cost of 35 runs. Lloyd wrapped up proceedings by having Trevor Jones caught by Barratt without scoring after Whitaker had been run out. Anderson finished unbeaten on 23 in Burnley's 99 all out. Lloyd added 3-22 to his fine unbeaten knock earlier in the day. Scorecard
