Birtwistle accounted for Neil Butterworth (9), Mark Stewart (7) and wicketkeeper Anthony Whittaker (0) and Aspin cleaned up Steve Monkhouse without scoring as the innings ended in the 42nd over. Brian Fielding struck early to send back Rawstron (2) and when Monkhouse returned the compliment to Aspin, Accrington were 7-2. Price had Graham Lloyd caught for 3 at 27 but Tucker hit 40 from 63 balls to take Accrington to within 4 runs of victory before falling to Monkhouse.
