Accrington picked up maximum points for the second match running after a 33 run win at Ramsbottom. Solid knocks from the middle order helped Accrington make 135 all out after home skipper Brian Fielding (4-28) and Terry Stewart (2-30) had made early inroads. Billy Rawstron was first to go at 24 after taking 35 balls to make 5 and he was followed 1 run later by fellow opener Andy Stevenson who made 13 from 32 balls. Skipper Trevor Hatch upped the tempo with 25 from 26 balls to take his team passed 50. Professional David Lloyd took 24 balls to make just 2 before John Ashworth put him out of his misery with 61 on the board. Mark Aspin made 15 out of a 5th wicket stand of 20 with Neil Jones who hit six fours in top scoring with 37 from 53 balls. Andy Gardener made 17 before being last out after helping the tail add a vital 21 runs. Alan Worsick removed opener Mick Rogers without scoring at 10 and 1 run later Aspin snapped up the vital wicket of professional David Hookes who also failed to trouble the scorers. Henry Hall helped Ian Bell add 20 before falling to Worsick who cleaned up John Ramsbottom next ball. Ashworth prevented the hat-trick but 6 runs later he too fell to Worsick. Steve Ratcliffe joined Bell to add 46 for the 6th wicket before the opener was bowled by Lloyd after hitting 45 from 78 balls, including five fours. Ratcliffe (23) fell to Ian Birtwistle without addition and Lloyd accounted for Maurice Haslam (2) at 90. Birtwistle (2-10) picked up his second wicket when he had Stewart taken by Gardener for 7 and Worsick (5-32) sealed the win by cleaning up Fielding to claim his second five wicket haul in a row.
