Accrington’s sorry run continued with a ninth defeat in ten games this time at the hands of Ramsbottom who left Thorneyholme Road with a 5 wicket win. Ramsbottom professional Murray Bennett took 7-50 to restrict the home side to 118-9. Professional David Lloyd top scored with 52 from 95 balls which took over two hours. Opening the innings with his brother Mark, Andy Stevenson  was first to go, caught by wicketkeeper Paul Marcroft off Steve Monkhouse without scoring with 1 on the board. Mark was next to go for 6 at 21, caught by Mick Rogers off Bennett. Seven runs later Mark Aspin (17) fell to the same combination. Trevor Hatch departed without addition also to Bennett and Paul Barratt soon followed at 36 to become the Australian’s fourth wicket. Brian Fielding accounted for Malcolm Taylor (8) at 45-6 but Andy Gardener joined his professional to add 22 before becoming Bennett’s fifth victim. Neil Barnes at last gave Lloyd some substantial support, making 20 from 49 balls in an 8th wicket stand of 45 before the paid man fell to his opposite number. Barnes was out off the final ball of the innings to that man Bennett. Ramsbottom openers Rogers and Ian Bell put on 45 before Lloyd struck to dismiss the latter for 25. Henry Hall was run out at 63 and 3 runs later Rogers fell to Ian Birtwistle in the 20th over for 34.  Birtwistle accounted for John Ramsbottom (1) at 70 but Bennett and John Ashworth added 42 before the amateur was trapped by Lloyd for 18. Alan Massicks kept Bennett company whilst the Australian hit the winning boundary in the 32nd over to finish unbeaten on 36. Accrington dropped down to 10th place in the table. Scorecard
