Nelson turned the tables on Accrington after their defeat the previous week, coming out on top by just 5 runs at Seedhill. An unbeaten 48 from 65 balls by Paul Garaghty helped the home side made 148 all out with Accrington professional David Lloyd bowling through the innings in taking 5-60. Skipper Alan Worsick also took 4-43. Lloyd accounted for openers Ian Clarkson (20) and Howard Lonsdale (15) and then Worsick claimed the prized scalp of professional Terry Hunte (8). Chris Hartley (22) helped Garaghty add 49 for the 4th wicket before being run out. No-one else made double figures as Garaghty shepherded the tail with a match winning knock. Hunte struck the first blowl for Nelson by removing Andy Stevenson (13) at 21 but Accrington were going well when Pat Calderbank struck again by removing Billy Rawstron (17) at 60 in the 15th over to end a 39 run 2nd wicket stand with Mark Aspin. It was Aspin who was next to go for 26, also to the evergreen Calderbank with the score on 75. Lloyd was left to battle away as just in the Nelson innings no-one else made double figures with Hunte taking 6-34 and Calderbank 3-43. Wickets fell at regular intervals but Lloyd battled away until the final over when 13 were needed with 2 wickets in hand. Lloyd and Paul Barratt managed 6 off Hunte’s first five balls but the Accrington professional was run out going for a second run off the sixth ball. Lloyd made 36 from 61 balls and his dismissal brought in 3rd team captain Glen Dickinson who was caught behind by Michael Bradley of his first ball to give Nelson victory. Scorecard
