Accrington’s Wakes Week’s blues continued with a fifth successive defeat this time at the hands of bottom side Bacup at Thorneyholme Road. Two run outs at opposite ends of the innings didn’t help Accrington who crawled to 87-9 in a 22 overs aside match which began at 3.37 pm and attracted a gate of just £4.  Professional David Lloyd was run out for 1 in the second over  when John Beaumont touched a straight drive by Billy Rawstron onto the stumps and it was an uphill struggle from then on against Bacup professional Ross Ormison who took 4-37 and  Beaumont who finished with 3-44. Rawstron fell in the fourth over at 15 to a catch by Roger Law off Beaumont for 7. Mark Aspin (15) and Malcolm Taylor (13) put on 19 but when Aspin was out in the 11th over only 32 were on the board. Neil Jones made 16 but when Taylor and Andy Gardener (0) both gave return catches to Beaumont Accrington were 41-5. Jones found an ally in Graham Lloyd who faced 26 balls in making 2 out of an 18 run 6th wicket stand. Jones fell five runs later. Skipper Alan Worsick (10) and Paul Barratt (15 not out from 9 balls) upped the tempo but at the close Accrington had only managed 87-9. Worsick picked up left hander Peter Nicholson (7) at 21 but John Kershaw (42 not out) and Ormiston (31 not out) saw Bacup home to a third win of the season without further loss with five balls to spare.  Scorecard
