Accrington went down to a 5 run defeat in a rain affected game at Rishton. Accrington professional David Stead took 5-57 from an unbroken 17 over spell in Rishton's 157-8. Stead picked up opener Dave Hill (21), Ian Procter 12) professional Michael Holding (12) and David Wells (1) after Neil Jones had removed David Ainscough for 13. Mick Donnelly accounted for David Chew (13) and Mike Eddleston (13) was run out leaving Eric Whalley (3) and Frank Martindale (10) as the not out batsmen. Holding bowled opener Geoff Hayhurst (9) and he then had his opposite number Stead caught by Whalley for 47. Barrie Hill trapped Graham Beech for 45 and later clean bowled Trevor Hatch (5). Holding had skipper Alan Richardson caught behind by Martindale for 2 and he then had Jones held by Eddleston for 21 in taking 4-79 from 16 overs as Accrington finished on 138-6, chasing a reduced target of 144 from 31 overs. Accrington stay in tenth place in the table after 21 games. Scorecard
