Accrington tasted victory for the first time after four successive league defeats. Professional David Stead hit an unbeaten 64 after taking 5-39 to lead the visitors to an 8 wicket win at East Lancs. The leg spinner picked up the wickets of Graham Tattersall (16), Brian Ratcliffe (60), skipper David Adams (0), Roland Horridge (2) and John Seedle (1). Ian Birtwistle claimed the scalps of sub professional David Wenlock (10) and Andy Compton (3) with Wayne Cooper being run out for 44. Ian Milloy (10 not out) and Chris Turner (1 not out) were the not out batsmen in East Lancs 164-8. After losing Geoff Hayhurst (11) to Seedle, Graham Beech (56) and Stead (64 not out) both hit half centuries. Neil Jones (9 not out) helped Stead see Accrington home with 1 over to spare after Beech fell to Wenlock. Accrington stay in bottom place inspite of picking up their first points of the season after five games. Scorecard
