An unbeaten 78 by professional David Stead helped Accrington to a fifth successive league and cup win at Colne. Stead had earlier taken 4-93 from an unbroken 17 over spell in Colne's 159-7. The home side opened up with a stand of 49 with stead having Geoff Fryers caught by Trevor Hatch for 24 and Ian Birtwistle having Marcus Phelan caught by skipper Alan Richardson for 33. Stead also sent back Terry Little (7), Geoff Marsden (7) and skipper Trevor Lonsdale (20) with Richardson removing professional Deepak Chopra (29 and Peter Lane (0). Peter (23 not out) and Gary Little (11 not out) added an unbroken 17 for the 8th wicket at the end of the innings. After the early loss of Geoff Hayhurst (1) at 3, Graham Beech and Stead put on 105 before Beech fell to Peter Little for 49. Peter West fell to Chopra 1 run later without scoring but Richardson hit an unbeaten 33 in an unbroken 4th wicket stand of 56 to see Accrington home with his professional in the 32nd over. Accrington move up one place to ninth after seven games. Scorecard
