Accrington's season at Thorneyholme Road ended in disappointment with a second successive defeat this time at the hands of Todmorden.

The home side were bowled out for just 105 with Bob Whitaker taking a career best 6-14 and John Townend 3-18 including a hat-trick and his 300th Lancashire League victim.

Accrington began well with openers John Swanney (38) and Graham Beech (22) putting on 64, but the introduction of Whitaker changed the match.

Only Alan Richardson (22) and professional Alan Worsick (12) could manage double figures as Whitaker ran amok.

Former England skipper Brian Close again showed his liking for the Accrington attack following up his Worsley Cup century on his previous visit in June with a match winning knock of 64.

Ian Smith (18) and wicketkeeper Garth Stansfield (12) played good supporting innings and Ian Birtwistle became the third Accrington bowler to pass 50 wickets when he removed Jim Clayton but the visitors went on to record a 5 wicket win with more than 5 overs remaining.

The match was Alan Worsick's last at Thorneyholme Road as professional after a five year spell. Alan was made captain for the day and at the tea interval Club Chairman Terry Neville made a presentation.
