Accrington notched a fourth win in five matches with a 67 run win at the home of the champions Enfield to go thirdin the table after five matches.

Solid knocks by skipper Peter West (36 not out), Alan Richardson (32) and John Swanney (31) helped the visitors to 136-6 in a match reduced by rain to 31 overs per side.

Chris Ryan struck first blow by removing Geoff Hayhurst (1) with the score on 6 and home professional Madan Lal (3-33) trapped Graham Beech (4) without addition to the total. Swanney and Richardson fought back with a 3rd wicket stand of 57 when Swanney was bowled by Lal.

Richardson, who scored his 2,000th Lancashire League run during his innings, followed 10 runs later caught by Ryan off David Stanley. Lal accounted for Malcolm Taylor (3) 1 run later and Stanley had home professional Alan Worsick caught behind by wicketkeeper Frank Martindale for 9 but an unbroken 7th wicket stand of 48 between West and Ian Birtwistle (14 not out) helped Accrington to 136-6.

Worsick had his revenge on Stanley when he clean bowled the opener for 6 and 3 runs later the visiting professional struck again by removing skipper Geoff Dixon for 3. Dave Parsons picked up Ian Lockett at 18 and then Birtwistle got in on the act by sending back Ian Metcalf (18) and Lal (16) after the pair had put on 32 for the 4th wicket.

Birtwistle (5-22 to earn a collection of £12.20) and Parsons (3-15) then cleaned up the tail without much resistance as Enfield subsided to 69 all out. Scorecard
