A century by Ramsbottom professional Trevor Laughlin helped the visitors pile up 158-8. The innings was dominated by a 3rd wicket stand of 115 between the Australian and Bob Brooks who made 32. Laughlin reached his half century in the 10th over out of a total of 61, hitting thirteen fours and two sixes in a two hour stay. After his dismissal Accrington managed to stem the flow of runs as no-one else made double figures with Dave Parsons (3-53) and Tony Gallagher (3-30) took three wickets apiece for Accrington. Graham Beech (24) and John Swanney (50) put on 44 after Laughlin (4-61) had removed Peter West before a run had been scored. The lower order fought hard after half the side had gone for 79, but Ramsbottom bowled tightly to restrict the title chasers to 144-7. The defeat left Accrington 7 points behind leaders Enfield.
