Graham Beech top scored with 29 as Accrington won a low scoring game at Liverpool Road by 5 wickets. Professional Alan Worsick took 4-29 with Steve Gee making 22 in the home sides 77-9. Gee and professional Jimmy Amarnath put on 25 after dave parsons had removed duncan hall for 1. Worsick removed his opposite number for 16 and then Accrington skipper Ian Birtwistle had Gee stumped by Paul Graham. iT was an uphill struggle from then onwards as the Accrington attack gave nothing away and the innings closed on 77-9 after the full 34 overs.

Geoff Hayhurst made 22 as an opening stand of 57 with Beech set up victory before becoming one of three victims for Neil Hodgson. Malcolm Taylor (12 not out) and Worsick (4 not out) secured victory in the 25th over after Gee (2-5) had picked up Alan Kennedy and Glyn Davies. Scorecard
