Defeats for the top two East Lancs and Burnley allowed Accrington to move into joint second spot three points behind East Lancs. Champions Accrington beat Haslingden by 3 wickets at Thorneyholme Road in the last over thanks to a consistent team performance. Professional Peter Swart hit an unbeaten 53 against his former club with good support from Richard Bostock (42) and John Entwistle (25) as Haslingden made 162-6. Alan Worsick took 3-62 for Accrington, who overcame the early loss of Geoff Hayhurst without scoring to bat solidly against the visitors attack. Malcolm Taylor hit an unbeaten 48 with Peter West (20), John Swanney (30), Alan Kennedy (16) and Alan Richardson (15) all contributing to put Accrington just 3 points behind East Lancs with 7 matches to play.
