A 6 wicket win at Church closed the gap at the top to just 1 point as champions Accrington increased the pressure on leaders East Lancs on Sunday August 22nd. Professional Alan Worsick took 7-61 to dismiss Church for 123. Dave Parsons picked up the vital wicket of Shafiq Ahmed for 14 but it was Worsick who put his side in seventh heaven with an outstanding spell of bowling. Billy Wilkinson made 33 and Jeff Parkinson 20 before falling to skipper Ian Birtwistle. Shafiq hit back immediately by removing Geoff Hayhurst for 3 but Peter West (45) and Alan Richardson (20) steadied the innings before Shafiq removed them both. John Swanney (25), Malcolm Taylor (16 not out) and Worsick (27 not out) then secured the points for Accrington with sound knocks. Second placed Accrington have 62 points from 21 matches.
