Haslingden v Accrington

Alan
Worsick turned in his best bowling performance for Accrington in his
sides 3 wicket win at Bentgate over an improving Haslingden side. Worsick
took all 8 wickets to fall at a cost of 31 runs as Haslingden were restricted
to 137-8 with former Accrington professional Peter Swart hitting 67,
his tenth half century of the season and the second against his former
club. Swart, the league's leading run maker to
date, added 50 for the 4th wicket with Mike Ingham (22) before becoming
the third victim of the Malcolm Taylor - Worsick combination that had
already accounted for Richard Bostock (4) and skipper Tony Holden (12).
Worsick's 8 wicket haul included 4 wickets in two overs in his second
spell. Accrington's makeshift opening partnership of Peter West (25)
and Paul Graham (18) gave
the visitors a sound start before
the latter became Swart's only victim of the innings. Alan Richardson
made 27 as Accrington seemed to be cruising to victory when medium pacer
Stuart Molloy took 3 wickets in five balls in his first over to reduce
Accrington to 84-5 sending back Taylor (6), Richardson and John Swanney
(0) but the ever reliable Ian Birtwistle, promoted to number seven,
made 33 to take the visitors to within 4 runs of victory. Phil Woods
made an unbeaten 14 in his first appearance of the season and Brian
Rutter was there at the end as Accrington, without
four regulars due to the holidays,
moved into second place after Enfield's loss to Rishton.
