The game at Dill Hall Lane a month earlier saw Accrington romp to a 9 wicket win with 90 minutes of play to spare. This win was the first of four in an eight day spell against the other Hyndburn sides.

Professional Wes Hall was the architect of this comprehensive victory taking 8-47 with the leg spin of Eddie Robinson (2-35) accounting for Geoff Dixon and wicketkeeper Wrigglesworth. Hall struck the first blow when he cleaned up skipper Jack Riley for 4 and Geoff Farnsworth for 16.

Enfield ’s West Indian professional Conrad Hunte top scored with 36 but when he was well caught by Accrington captain Lindon Dewhurst the floodgates opened.

Sharp catching accounted for Ian Metcalf and Benny Baron and Mike Ranson was trapped leg before. Hall then clean bowled Dougie Chadwick and Chris Halliwell, who had resisted well in making 19, and the innings closed on 111

The Accrington openers were in no mood to hang around with Frank Rushton and Jackie Hope racing to 92. Hope then fell to a catch by Hunte off skipper Riley for 36 but Derek Rushton joined his brother Frank to complete the victory at 5.30. Frank finished unbeaten on 68 with ten boundaries
