A third defeat in four matches severely dented Accrington’s title hopes after they had bowled the visitors out for just 99. Professional Wes Hall bowled his best spell since May taking 7-37 with leg spinner Eddie Robinson chipping in with 3-28.

David Tattersall top scored with 31 and skipper Rex Cresswell and Roger Sharp both made 19 for East Lancs.

Sharp then returned to haunt Accrington with the ball taking 6-25 to bowl the home side out for 56.

Jackie Hope made 19 and Frank Rushton 14 but no other batsman could make double figures as Sharp and professional Ray Strauss (3-31) ran through the Accrington batting line up.
