Club Announce New Pro' Signing
Tuesday October 27th 2020

The club is pleased to announce the signing of Sri Lankan Sammu Ashan as professional for the 2021 season.

The 22 year old right handed batsman and off break bowler plays his domestic cricket for Sinhalese Sports Club and has also represented his country at both U19 and A team level.

In 29 First-class matches he has scored 1,815 runs at an average of 46.5.

This will be the first time he has played league cricket in England, although he did have a successful tour with the Sri Lanka U19 side to England in 2016.

Everyone at the club is looking forward to welcoming Sammu to The Property Shop Arena next year.

First team captain Graeme Sneddon added; “We are extremely pleased to announce the signing of Sammu as our Professional and look forward to welcoming him to Accrington for the 2021 season.

"After speaking to our ex professional Janith Liyanage and other contacts in Sri Lanka he comes highly recommended, and was the standout player and our number one target for 2021.

"Although only 22 and what will be his first time in English league cricket, he is very keen to come over to showcase his talents and improve his all round game.

"We feel that with a couple of signings we hope to make, Sammu will fit perfectly into our team going forward.

"I would like to thank both Rob Humphries and James Hine of World Sports Xchange for making his signing as smooth and as quick as possible for us. “
