Jim Whittle

The club is saddened to report the passing of Jim Whittle an ex-player and supporter of the club who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Good Friday at the age of 77 years following a short but dignified battle with cancer.

Jim is a former player at the club in the 1950s and in recent years he rekindled his passion for cricket at Accrington Cricket Club through his 13 year old grandson, Ben Ross.

Jim followed Ben's progress with great pride and enthusiasm, and never missed a match. He met up again with his childhood friend and Best Man, Roland Finney and became a keen supporter of Accrington's first team with his best friend and son-in-law Simon Ross.  Jim is pictured in the best of health with Simon and Ben at Old Trafford before the Big Bash match between Lancashire and Yorkshire last season.

To celebrate Jim's life a funeral Mass will be held at St Anne's Church, Cobham Road, Accrington on Tuesday 14th April at 9.45am followed by a cremation at Accrington Cemetery at 11am and a social gathering afterwards at Accrington Cricket Club where refreshments will be available.
