Brian Heywood

Accrington have signed veteran batsman Brian Heywood.

The 46 year-old, who has scored over 10,000 runs in a 31 year career in league cricket, 8564 of them for Todmorden, joined Spring View in the Bolton Association last season after failing to gain a place in the Todmorden side after injury forced him to miss the start of the season.

Heywood hit 250 runs in 9 completed innings for Spring View, including a match winning 108 in his final match for the club. He will become the second amateur to play for both Accrington and Todmorden, the other being the much travelled wicketkeeper Mark Burns who made the journey in the opposite direction.
