Shane and Me

Shane Warne agreed to record a message for the Re-Union Night we were holding in June. I had arranged to meet him at Headingley at the end of the first days play between Yorkshire and Hampshire in England captain Michael Vaughan's comeback game on May 31st after he had showered and changed.

Things didn't quite go to plan though. After play had ended around fifty Yorkshire supporters stood at the head of the players tunnel chanting for Shane. After about ten minutes he came out and started signing autographs for fans young and old. He signed everything that was put in front of him and he also had around thirty photos taken. All this after a long hard day in the field during which he had bowled 26 overs and had to endure a frustrating 9th wicket stand of over 100 between Jason Gillespie and Tim Bresnan.

After he had done his duty, Shane decided that he wanted to do the recording there and then in the Players Tunnel, which runs between the cricket and football stadiums with the changing rooms at opposite ends of the tunnel. We hurriedly set up the equipment, sat Shane down in the middle of the tunnel and just as the camera started rolling Michael Vaughan walked in on the filming. A classic out-take followed which wasn't shown on the night but will be viewed at a later date.

Shane was brilliant, saying he had fond memories of his time up at Accrington: "We could get into trouble and no-one would know!"

Special thanks to Geoff for filming the event
