Church 189 Accrington 190-8

Having lost yet another toss, I was asked by my opposing number to bowl first on what looked like a true dry batting track. Within the first 10 overs Church were on the back foot on 28-2, thanks to little Matty’s double strike in his opening spell. However this recovery was short lived as Church mounted an admirable recovery and within no time set us an imposing 189 all out. The score would not have reached such dizzy heights had we not fielded like a team high on weed killer. Our ground fielding was shoddy and our catching took me back to last years team who used to regularly field like legless Peruvian ant eaters on a regular basis! The most successful bowler was little Matty with career best figures of 4-28 who also missed out on his hat-rick for the second successive match.

Our reply began destructively as we reached 150-3 within 22 overs largely thanks to Saggy's second successive score past 50 (64) and Shak (76*). However the predictable nature of our batting reared its head again as we quickly and very worryingly collapsed to 160-7. But thanks to the nerveless innings of Shak and Jonny Hayhurst (14) at the end took us past Church with an uneasy but welcome 2 wicket victory, and another welcome 5 points.
